According to report, FAW Group is to join Nio’s battery-swapping station network to become its seventh automaker to do so. The other six makers are GAC Group, Changan Automobile, Geely, Chery, JAC and Lotus.

Nio currently has 2,416 battery-swapping stations across China, with another 1,000 to come this year. The medium-term plan is to have 10,000 battery swap stations and a strong network that includes more electric vehicle manufacturers. And reports so far suggest that more manufacturers are willing to join the club.

If the target of 10,000 stations is reached, Nio estimates that it will be able to supply around 10 million vehicles on the road and possibly expand into different price ranges, not just the luxury class.

On November 21, 2023, Nio and Changan Motor signed a deal on battery swap business, under which the two sides will cooperate in the joint construction and sharing of battery-swapping networks and the development of battery-swapping models, and Changan Motor became the first external member of the Nio-led battery-swapping alliance.
