Great Wall Motors plans to establish factories in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam over the next two years to initiate local assembly operations in these ASEAN countries.

According to Cheng Jinkui, the CEO of ASEAN operations, the group achieved comprehensive coverage of the ASEAN region only in 2023.

Cheng views their investments in ASEAN as being in the early stages, with expectations of significant progress in the future. Presently, Great Wall operates a fully established factory in Thailand, with new facilities in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam slated to commence production this year or the next.

Specifically, Great Wall Motors is collaborating with Malaysia's EP Manufacturing to assemble products in Malacca, with production expected to begin as early as July. In Indonesia, the assembly plant is set to commence operations in July or August this year, while the Vietnam facility will start local assembly next year.

Great Wall Motors was one of the first companies to enter the Southeast Asian market and is one of the most influential Chinese EV brands in the region, the report said.

In January this year, Great Wall Motors formally signed a CKD assembly cooperation agreement with EP Manufacturing Berhad, a major Malaysian manufacturing group listed on the stock exchange. This agreement marks the launch of Great Wall Motors' first CKD (Completely Knocked Down) project in the ASEAN region, further solidifying its presence and production capabilities in the region.
