Polestar, the high-end electric car brand owned by Geely, has begun making its Polestar 3 electric SUV in the U.S. This move comes as European and American countries have recently imposed tariffs on electric vehicles made in China, prompting many Chinese car companies to move some of their production to other countries.

The Polestar 3 will be produced at Volvo’s factory in South Carolina and sold in the U.S. and Europe. Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath says the factory should be running at full capacity within two months and plans to start delivering to U.S. customers next month, followed by deliveries to Europe. He did not disclose the factory’s exact production capacity. This year, Polestar has already sold 3,555 Polestar 2 electric cars in the U.S. The company also plans to produce the Polestar 4 coupe SUV at Geely’s Renault Korea factory later this year for sale in Europe and the U.S.
