On September 20, 2024, GWM made a major announcement: the successful development and activation of its first automotive-grade MCU chip, the Zijing M100. This chip, created in partnership with several industry leaders, marks a significant step forward in GWM’s push for advanced smart vehicle technology.Entering the "Chip" Era with the Zijing M100

The Zijing M100 is the result of GWM's collaboration with multiple partners and is based on the open-source RISC-V architecture. Its modular design includes a reconfigurable core and a four-stage pipeline, delivering faster processing and lower latency. This chip meets ASIL-B safety standards, supports Chinese encryption protocols, and adheres to ISO21434 cybersecurity regulations, making it a strong foundation for future smart driving and intelligent cabin applications.

This breakthrough is part of GWM’s broader "software-hardware integration" strategy, which aims to enhance both performance and cost-efficiency. By developing its own chips, GWM is poised to lower procurement costs while increasing product competitiveness. The Zijing M100 also provides a flexible, low-cost solution for the automotive industry, which could drive further innovation in chip design and boost the development of the domestic RISC-V ecosystem.

A Step Toward Innovation and Broader Applications

As GWM Chairman Jack Wey explained, “The core of a car is in its components, not just the assembly line. It’s the result of integrated technologies. GWM is one of the most comprehensive automakers in China, and we will continue to invest in chip R&D for the future.”

GWM's journey into semiconductor technology began in October 2021, with a dedicated team working on power semiconductors. By November 2022, the company had founded Wuxi Xindong Semiconductor Technology Co., Ltd., focusing on Si IGBT and SiC MOS technologies. This move allowed GWM to dive deeper into chip design and testing, strengthening its position in the industry.

With more than a decade of investment in smart technology, GWM’s Zijing M100 chip marks a milestone in its progress toward AI and intelligent driving. This achievement is also part of GWM's broader Forest Ecosystem Strategy, reinforcing its growing network of industry collaborators.

In a time of intense global competition and rapid technological change, the Zijing M100 stands as both a breakthrough in automotive chip technology and a testament to GWM’s commitment to innovation. It also sets a inspiring example for other Chinese automakers as they strive to develop their own technologies and enhance their competitiveness on the world stage.
